NAGAFF Calls For Calm Over CRFFN Postponement Of Governing Council Elections

Apparently  jolted by the unexpected  suspension of the elections into the  governing council of Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF)  said yesterday that, a meeting of  leaders of all the registered freight forwarding associations will hold today(Friday) in Lagos.

Shipping Position Daily recalls that, Registrar of the council, Sir Mike Jukwe had in a terse message which was circulated to all freight forwarding associations late Wednesday announced the indefinite postponement, but gave no reasons for the action.

The CRFFN council elections were originally slated to hold today, Friday 29th in Lagos at its Lagos office in Apapa.

The council however announced that the accreditation of voters for the CRFFN Council Election which was to have held yesterday (Thursday June 28, 2018) and the voting of contestants scheduled to take place on Friday June 29, 2018 have both been postponed.

And responding to the CRFFN action, NAGAFF called for cautioned , even as it  noted that there was need “to manage these avoidable circumstances”.

In a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily, NAGAFF Founder; Dr Boniface Aniebonam disclosed that “leaders of the various registered associations under CRFFN control and regulation and the contestants shall be meeting at NAGAFF village today the 28th of June 2018 to advance the course for the aggrieved to remain calm in the face of avoidable development.”

The association also preached the legitimacy of government to superintend affairs of the CRFFN, even as it added that it is also in a better position to take steps in the interest of all stakeholders.

“The Government of the Federation has a mandate to protect and serve all Nigerians.  Let us therefore always believe in their statutory duty and thus trusting their action wherein there is hope for remedy in the future”.

Perhaps clarifying its position on the status of ‘independent candidacy’ in the elections, NAGAFF argued that anyone who is not a member of any registered freight forwarding association is not qualified to contest in the election.

“Any freight practitioner whose name is not found in the register of freight forwarders kept by the Registrar and or a member of the registered associations accredited by CRFFN should consider himself or herself a misnomer and to say the least an impostor in the freight forwarding profession in Nigeria.”

It added that this is the “mischief CRFFN is set out to cure”.
