MAN, Oron Female Cadet Calls For Job Opportunities For Colleagues

A Higher National Diploma Student of Nautical Science in the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron; Miss Batelda Nduese, has expressed happiness that female cadets now had opportunities to be employed.
Nduese, a Deputy Cadet Captain General in her class, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that maritime companies refused to employ female cadets.
The nautical science student, in her early 20’s, said she had made a case for organisations to give jobs to up-coming female cadets to contribute to development of maritime industry.

The nautical science student, in her early 20’s, said she had made a case for organisations to give jobs to up-coming female cadets to contribute to development of maritime industry.
“I am honoured that my dream of fighting for female cadets to reach the peak of their career is fulfilled with the promise of Mr Greg Ogbeifun, Managing Director, Starzs Investment Company.
“Ogbeifun and others promised to give future female engineers employment.
“I believe that other companies will take a cue from him to employ female cadets after their studies; I feel great,’’ She said.
Nduese said that female cadets from Oron had been clamouring for opportunities to be given jobs after their studies.
“ We have been calling for it for years, but nobody has given us much attention; In HND 2, we are 42 in the class with only four females.
“Other female cadets in junior classes are more. I am glad that this opportunity will pave way for them too,’’ Nduese said.
She said that only few women from the school were employed in gas companies and in the maritime industry.
Nduese said that many female graduates were ready to work, but the companies turned us down, alleging that women were distractions.
She said that she was happy because more women were being admitted into the academy unlike what obtained in the past.
She expressed optimism that the companies would give women more opportunities when they realise their potentials to contribute to the growth of the industry.
