The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has issued an alert over an imminent invasion and assault on Lagos ports.
The union in a formal petition to Muhammed Bello-Koko, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), stated that a group of aggressive trespassers falsely posing as authentic port users plans to launch an attack.
The union informed that the group has also schemed to target MWUN’s members and truck drivers who utilize the port access roads.
The petition, dated August 18, 2023, and signed by union’s Deputy Secretary General, Comrade Oniha Erazue consequently implored the NPA to bolster security both within the port area and along the access roads.
The MWUN stated that the objective is to ensure a secure and favourable atmosphere for work and for authorized business undertakings.
MWUN has cautioned that in the event of an assault on its members, it will withdraw its services from all ports, jetties, terminals, and oil and gas platforms across the nation.
Meanwhile, the union has extended commendation to NPA MD for his prompt responsiveness and dedication to the security of its members at the ports.
