Following the appointment of a caretaker committee to take over the affairs of the crisis-ridden Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar; the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has condemned the non-inclusion of freight forwarders in the committee.
Following the appointment of a caretaker committee to take over the affairs of the crisis-ridden Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) by the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar; the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has condemned the non-inclusion of freight forwarders in the committee.
National president of NAGAFF, Mr. Eugene Nweke told Shipping Position Daily in Lagos on Monday that there are elders in the freight forwarding who should have been included in the committee in order not to make it a government parastatal.
Eugene argued that the CRFFN is already losing priority because it is already being fashioned to be a government agency which it is not.
Speaking further, he said that, “in the freight forwarding industry there are people that are elders, that have put in years and their integrity are still intact, they can come into the council and make it not to be a government regulated council but a professional council”.
“But the way it is now, it looks as if it is a government thing, for God’s sake I don’t work for the government, I am a private person, I am a professional freight forwarder, so how can my council now be handled by agencies of the government to conduct an election for me?” Eugene lamented.
Eugene said that after four years operation of the council, it should not be talking about midwifing, according to him the appointment of the committee is aimed towards midwifing the council.
“We are losing priority and the fact is that we must appreciate that prior to the Act we have been professional freight forwarders in this country, the coming of the council is to add more impetus to what we are doing, the present arrangement is dwarfing”, he stated.
“What we are saying is that let there not be a repeat of the election of 2007” he warned.
