Founder of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, has advised freight forwarders to stop false declaration of cargoes.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, Aniebonam said that importers and customs agents should genuinely declare their goods to avoid running foul of the law.
“Importers and Agents should know that the import guidelines of 2006 enabled additional duty assessment against untrue declaration.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Monday, Aniebonam said that importers and customs agents should genuinely declare their goods to avoid running foul of the law.
“Importers and Agents should know that the import guidelines of 2006 enabled additional duty assessment against untrue declaration.
“It is important that we remind ourselves that the 2006 Import Guidelines is a mere regulation and is inferior to the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA),’’ he said.
He said that under the CEMA, untrue declaration was an offence punishable by law.
Aniebonam advised importers to obey the law with due diligence to avoid endangering their investments unnecessarily.
“ Freight Forwarders owe their principals a duty to educate and enlighten them on how to avoid actions capable of having dire consequences on their investments,’’ he said.
According to him, the road map to freedom and business success is to engage in best practice and comply with import regulations of government.
“This is one duty we owe our country.
“Let us respect and obey the laws and regulations governing our international trade as good citizens and patriots of our great country,'' the freight forwarder said.
