The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has advised people with hypertension, diabetes and other comorbidities to avoid physical participation in events and conferences.
It urged such people to consider virtual participation in such events.
The agency gave the advice in its latest guidelines for conferences and events as part of efforts to curtail the further spread of COVID-19.
The updated guidelines were released on Monday.
The NCDC said it was important to update the guidelines due to the potential impact of events on community spread.
According to the document, outdoor activities are highly recommended.
It however said indoor activities can be held provided the venue did not accommodate more than 50 per cent of its normal capacity, among other measures.
The new guideline partly reads; “Outdoor activities are highly recommended but indoor activities can be held in line with the existing national regulations on gatherings and strict adherence to public health and social measures.

“The venue should not accommodate more than 50 per cent of its normal capacity. There should be adequate and cross ventilation or a functional air conditioning system. The sitting arrangement should ensure seats are separated with a minimum of two metres from each other.
“The duration of the event should be short (based on the context of the event, number of attendees and the actual time of commencement). Adequate and functional hand hygiene facilities such as hand washing facilities and alcohol-based hand sanitizer should be in place.
“The place of accommodation should take responsibility for implementation of safety protocols.”
