The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said yesterday that it has arrested two brothers with 430 grammes of Cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
In a statement issued by the spokesman of the agency, Mitchell Ofoyeju, in Lagos, the NDLEA said the suspects were arrested with the substance–which was tested to be cocaine– while trying to board an Etihad Airline flight to India.
“The drug, which was craftily hidden inside shoe soles, was detected during the outward screening of Etihad passenger flight to India.

“The first suspect, name withheld, a 23-year-old man, was arrested when the drug was found inside the sole of his shoe during screening of passengers on an Etihad Airline flight.
“His brother, name also withheld, a 38-year-old man, who allegedly sponsored the trip, was arrested and is being interrogated by narcotic investigators.
“The agency is glad that the suspects were detected before they could fly out of the country, where their lives would have been cut shot, if caught there".
It said that one of the suspects told the NDLEA officials during interrogation that his cousin lured him into the dangerous business.
The suspect, according to the officials, claimed that he was working as a labourer with a construction company before the arrest.
“ I was swindled of my hard earned N360, 000, while trying to get my travel documents. My cousin promised to sponsor me to India, so that I can work and further my education,'' he said.
The suspect said he was invited to Lagos by his brother, who told him that everything was set for him to travel.
“He gave me the shoe to wear, saying that mine was old. He never told me there was drug in it,” the suspect said.
The statement said the second suspect, while reacting to his cousin allegation, claimed he was an importer of textile materials, stressing that he wanted to use his cousin to smuggle drugs.
“I used my money in processing his travel documents. I was doing him a favour, but I want to get my money back. Why must I sponsor him if there is no benefit,” the suspect said.
The NDLEA urged members of the public to be cautious of the antics of drug barons, including members of their families.
