As part of measures to ensure that freight forwarders are adequately trained, the Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarding and Customs Brokers (NIFF) has advised the Federal Government to support the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
As a training arm of CRFFN, the freight forwarding institute says that government’s support to the council will bring about constant training of the many quacks in the freight forwarding sub sector of the maritime industry.

National President of NIFF, Dr. Zebulon Ikokide in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily last week in Lagos said that government support to CRFFN will bring about transformation of the freight forwarding and customs brokers.
"Our demand is that the government should support the CRFFN because NIFF is a training arm of the council and if the federal government show commitment to the council, it will make us to do more as regard training of the practitioners and we will train them to their professional peak", he stated.
Ikokide stated that the freight forwarding and customs brokerage sector must be taken into cognisance by the government because of the pivotal roles it plays in revenue generation of the country.
"The freight forwarding sector needs to be taken care of by the government and the 48 hours cargo clearance from the port can be achievable only if the freight agents are knowledgeable"
"People are not enlightened on what to do about the industry, most especially customs formalities and that is what the Nigeria Institute of Freight Forwarding and Customs brokers is trying to do to make sure that people are trained to their peak to have the knowledge of the industry, so that at the end we can achieve 48hours cargo clearance "
