According to him, “the public relations officer should not lie to the public; telling lies will make matter worse.
“So it is better to accept responsibility and inform the public how you intend to resolve the problem.
“The public relations officer should also make sure that what he or she is saying is verifiable and be sure of the target of your press messages.”
Dandaura, who is also a member of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), emphasised the need to build a solid relationship with journalists who would use the message to be well acceptable by audience.
He, however, urged the customs officers and men to issue press statements on time, to enable the reporters to meet up with the deadline for filing their stories.
Dandaura said that no organisation existed without efforts at winning the support of its publics.
He , therefore, said reputation survey involved feedback, comparison, strength and weakness, new government polices and regulation as well as new business trend.
The expert defined reputation as a general estimation that the public had for a person or organisation, adding that the reputation could also be defined as notoriety for some particular character.
Dandaura said that a company could easily be recognised when faced with a negative situation, adding it was not the best thing.
