Nigeria Stock Exchange Closes Week With 26 Gainers 26 Losers

At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 410,361,873 shares in 6,436 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 9,163,177,257.15, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, November 2), Friday’s data shows 22% decline in volume, 50% improvement in turnover, but 23% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 38.6 trillion.

In the aggregate, 121 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 26 gainers and 26 losers. International Breweries led the gainers with 9.64% share price appreciation closing at NGN 4.55 per share, followed by Associated Bus Company (+8.86%), Champion Breweries (+8.82%) and Royal Exchange (+8%). On the losing side, Tantalizers came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 8.89% at NGN 0.41 per share, followed by Prestige Assurance Company (-8.89%), Chams (-8.18%) and Daar Communications (-8%). Fidelity Bank recorded the highest volume of 61.1 million traded shares, followed by Japaul Gold and Ventures (47.7m), United Bank for Africa (30.9m) and Guaranty Trust Holding (29.9m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) inched up 154.65 (0.22%) points to close at 70,196.93, representing a 1-week gain of 4.56%, a 4-week gain of 5.63%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 36.97%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (+0.22%; +4.52% 1WK; +40.07% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-0.02%; +3.14% 1WK; +44.02% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+1%; +6.78% 1WK; +42.59% YTD), NGX Consumer Goods Index (+0.37%; +0.47% 1WK; +95.22% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.09%; +4.3% 1WK; +67.08% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +102.35% YTD).
