Nigeria Stock Exchange Closes Week With N36.5 trillion Market Capitalization

Stock Market Records N3.7trillion Trade With 13 Gainers 18 Losers

At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 374,093,983 shares in 6,822 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 8,933,714,056.87, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, October 5), Friday’s data shows 5% improvement in volume, 138% improvement in turnover, but 2% decline in deals. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 36.5 trillion.

 

In the aggregate, 118 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 19 gainers and 26 losers. Omatek Ventures led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.44 per share, followed by Airtel Africa (+8.53%), Caverton Offshore Support Group (+5.84%) and Linkage Assurance (+4.17%). On the losing side, Oando came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 9.55% at NGN 9.00 per share, followed by SCOA Nigeria (-9.52%), N.E.M. Insurance Company (-9.09%) and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance (-8.93%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 52.4 million traded shares, followed by Fidelity Bank (49.7m), BUA Cement (45.1m) and Access Holdings (29.7m).

 

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) pared 115.62 (-0.17%) points to close at 66,454.57, representing a 1-week gain of 0.01%, a 4-week loss of 2.68%, but an overall year-to-date gain of 29.66%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.16%; +32.64% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-1.79%; -0.47% 1WK; +41.75% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (+2.04%; +3% 1WK; +31.73% YTD), NGX Banking Index (+0.71%; +2.86% 1WK; +61.86% YTD), NGX Pension Index (+0.16%; +0.47% 1WK; +60.18% YTD), and NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +97.63% YTD).
