The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) last week took top executive members of its petroleum tanker drivers (PTD) branch to the classroom to further enlighten them on issues relating to transportation as well as to acquire other skills.
The three- day long leadership training workshop which was tagged ‘leadership training for petroleum tanker drivers’ took place at the Lagos zonal council of the union and drew participation of its top executive from Lagos, Oyo, Ilorin, Ogun, Ekiti and Ondo state.
Also, the lecture was reported to have been delivered to the tanker drivers by the senior special adviser to the Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa.
The lecture also had representatives from technical consultant limited, the national president of the union, comrade Peter Akpattason as well as the Secretary general Elijah Okuogbo.
The Assistant secretary of the PTD branch of the union, Mr Tayo Boyeji confirmed to our correspondent that the event was designed to be a twin package; the date for the second lecture according to him will be made known soon. He said that it is designed to include all chairmen of various units and tank farms.
He told Shipping Position Weekly that “ the idea behind the leadership training and seminar is to imbibe certain knowledge into our members, and some of the lectures given were on how to be an effective leader, how to plan successfully, how to negotiate and most importantly how to manage crisis” he said.
Reacting to allegations that its members usually cause traffic congestions on Lagos roads, he exonerated the PTD saying that “the situation is inevitable and we are not to be blamed, we have been unengaged due to the scarcity in the country and if you go to the trailer park at Orile (in Lagos), everywhere is filled up with trucks”.
