Oil Exploration: Northern Speakers’ Tasks FG

Speakers of the legislature in the 19 states in the  northern part of the country rose form their 17th conference in Katsina, Katsina state last week with a call on the federal government to revisit the issue of oil exploration in the North this year.
In the communiqué that was released at the end of the three – day meeting, the speakers acknowledge that although the federal government had demonstrated commitment to the search for hydrocarbon in the North, it is yet to match that with action, especially as it concerns exploration in the Chad Basin and other states where crude oil deposits are likely to be found. 
The meeting consequently pleaded with the government to factor it into the 2009 fiscal programme, even as it maintained that the states which had been identified a swell as the Chad Basin are potential sources of crude oil if earnestly exploited.
