The Bua Port and Terminals General Manager at Rivers Port, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Lile has faulted Nigeria Customs Service and other federal government agencies for being responsible for the high tariffs at eastern ports.
Alhaji Lile stated this recently in Port Harcourt while delivering a paper entitled: “Enhancing Shipping Services Delivery and Pricing at Nigerian Ports.”
The Bua Port and Terminals General Manager at Rivers Port, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Lile has faulted Nigeria Customs Service and other federal government agencies for being responsible for the high tariffs at eastern ports.
Alhaji Lile stated this recently in Port Harcourt while delivering a paper entitled: “Enhancing Shipping Services Delivery and Pricing at Nigerian Ports.”
Alhaji Lile canvassed that there is need for government to address the post – concession challenges in order to reduce cost of transactions at the ports. He lamented that the multiplicity of service processes is a major challenge in reducing costs.
He also said that several other government agencies have their responsibilities overlapping with others, and noted that such will end up in adding to cost of clearance and delay in the clearing processes.
Alhaji Lile therefore advised that challenges from host communities, inadequate pilotage, tug boats, pilot cutters, delayed berthing and sailing of vessels ought to be addressed, and tariffs minimally reduced, the ports will be made more friendly and attractive not only in Nigeria, but throughout West African sub-region.
