The Nigerian Ports Consultative Council (NPCC) has called for the institution of a National Single Window at the nation’s seaports.
Chairman of the NPCC; Otunba Kunle Folarin made the call when he led some members of the Council on a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in Lagos last week.
In a statement signed by the Head Public Relations Unit of the Shippers’ Council; Mrs. Rakiya Dhikru-Yagboyaju, the NPCC chairman was quoted as saying that the National Single Window would give Nigeria a competitive edge over other maritime nations, noting that all stakeholders are working assiduously to make the country a regional maritime hub.
The NPCC chieftain also reiterated the need for intermodal transport in the Nigerian maritime domain. He noted that an effective rail system and barge operations would address speedy evacuation of cargoes and reduce dependence on road transportation.

He affirmed the readiness of NPCC to support NSC to meet its regulatory obligations at the nation’s ports.
The NPCC boss said, the visit to the Shippers’ Council was because, as the port economic regulator, the Council is a key player in the on-going transformation of Nigerian ports.
Responding, the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mr Emmanuel Jime expressed delight over the Nigerian Ports Consultative Council’s visit.
Hon. Jime assured that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council will institute effective regulation at the Nigerian ports.
He said NSC was pushing for a legal frame work which would be of immense benefit to the transport industry.
