Poultry Association Lauds LASG On Planned Feed Intervention

The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State  Chapter has lauded the state government on its planned feed subsidisation intervention in the sector.

The chairman, PAN, Lagos State Chapter, Mr Mojeed Iyiola, gave the commendation on Monday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

The chairman noted that the rising cost of feed materials was a major problem to the sector’s productivity and growth.

He also appreciated the Lagos State Government on its initiative to address this major challenge among poultry and fish farmers in the state.

“As an association in 2025, all we are trying to do is to find a way of reducing the cost of production, so that the end-product from the poultry industry will be within the reach of the masses.

“So, we have been having series of meetings and consultations with Lagos State Government, and the agriculture commissioner to improve the situation and they have been promising us to intervene.

“The state government wants to help farmers in the sector subsidise cost of production, which is the most cost-intensive aspect of the poultry production subsector.

“However, the feed materials subsidisation is only going to cater to a few financial members of the association, we hope the intervention will cover more farmers,” the chairman said.

Iyiola reiterated that the cost of feed inputs was crippling the subsector as most poultry farmers had no choice but to shut their farms, due to the hardship.

“For example, a bag of 25kg of tartare sells at almost N20,000, so maybe when the government subsidises, it can go as low as N15,000 or N10,000 which will go a long way in reducing cost.

“As an association, we are proposing more than 1000 farmers to be recipients of the intervention from the poultry association.

“We hope that the government can accommodate more numbers in the coming months.

“We also express our gratitude to the Lagos State Government in its efforts to alleviate the problem of poultry and catfish farmers in the state,” Iyiola said. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
