As stakeholders in the maritime industry brace up to attend the inaugural edition of the much talked about Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX 2011) which will be holding from Tuesday up till Thursday this week in Lagos, President Goodluck Jonathan has been confirmed to declare the event open alongside the Secretary General of International Maritime Organization (IMO), Efthimios  Mitroupoulos who has also been confirmed as the keynote speaker.

According to the organizing committee of NIMAREX 2011, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is expected to declare the plenary session open as the special guest of honor.
The three day event has also been confirmed to attract selected top executives of leading organizations from within and outside Nigeria, senior government functionaries and representatives from regulatory agencies as speakers, discussants and chairmen of sessions at the event.
The event is expected to bring together maritime players from Nigeria, West Africa and other parts of the world.
According to Mr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chairman NIMAREX Planning Committee, other key participants at NIMAREX 2011 will include Nigerian-born, award-winning Dr Chamberlain Peterside, chief executive New Era Capital, New York, Yusuf Suleiman, Minister of Transport, Chief Isaac Jolapamo, chairman Indigenous Ship-owners Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Capt Emmanuel Ihenacho, Minister of Interior, Chima Ibeneche, chief executive Nigeria LNG Ltd.
Others include Austen Oniwon, GMD NNPC, Greg Ogbeifun, chief executive,  Starzs Shipyard and Lloyds.
In addition, the following key players in the Nigeria’s maritime sector are also expected to grace the occasion: Mrs Mfon Usoro, Secretary General, Abuja MoU on States Port Control, chief executive Damen Shipyards, Netherlands, Representatives from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Airforce, Engr Omar Suleiman, MD Nigerian Ports Authority, Ziakede Patrick Akpobolokemi, DG, NIMASA, Capt Adamu Biu, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, and Dikko Inde Abdullahi, Comptroller-General, Nigeria Customs Service among others.

Ogbeifun said the benefits of NIMAREX 2011 to Nigerian investors in particular and the Nigerian economy in general cannot easily be quantified in monetary terms. This is because, according to him, the expo will create the much desired platform for many investors to identify real opportunities for investments. He added that the event will similarly create opportunity for foreign direct investments.
The Nigeria Maritime Expo is a public-private sector driven developmental initiative with the core objective to create the needed platform to develop Nigeria’s largely unexploited maritime sector. NIMAREX has a vision to establish Nigeria as the maritime hub for Africa.  NIMAREX 2011 planning committee membership is drawn from government ministries and parastatal as well as from the organized private sector.
NIMAREX is an annual flagship maritime event to showcase an assemblage of maritime products, new technologies, service and expertise, as well as provide the platform to unlock various business opportunities in Nigeria’s maritime sector. NIMAREX offers a holistic business experience by combining exhibitions, conferences and seminars.
