Reps Commend INTELS, Lampoon Others.

Visiting members of the House of Representatives committee on privatization and commercialization have commended Integrated Logistics Services (INTELS) for excellent service delivery in its areas of operation and for adding value to the Onne terminals.
The committee which was led in the visit to Port Harcourt and Onne ports by its chairman Hon. Njidda Ahmed Gella had prior to touring INTELS facilities at Onne ports visited Port Harcourt port where it scored another terminal operator; BUA low in the operations of its concessioned terminal and threatened that failure to improve, the terminal will be short down.
On arriving at the INTELS terminal Onne, the committee and its members were shown a brand new 750 tons crane which had just been acquired  by the company and other developmental projects. The 750 tons handler is said to be the only one of its type in the whole of Africa.
The committee was also shown the recently concluded water project by the company that is capable of taking up to 6,300 cubic meter of water at a time. The company reportedly expended a whopping US$ 6.3 million on the hi tech equipment
Apparently overwhelmed by the facilities that the committee saw, its chairman rained commendations on INTELS management for the giant strides taken in developing the terminal and for adding value to its operations..
The committee had earlier visited the berths A and B at Port Harcourt being operated by PTOL and BUA respectively and the chairman did not hide his displeasure at the way the terminal are being run and the inability of the concessionaires to improve the terminal.
Other facilities which the committee visited included the Brawal terminal and Endorama; both in Onne port where the chairman companied about the level of insecurity.
At Endorama complex, the committee declared its displeasure over the conversion of an office structure into residential quarters without approved plan and environmental impact assessment (EIA), even as Hon. Gella queried the company for allegedly flouting an earlier directive on the matter
Speaking later to news men, the chairman said that part of the committee’s visit is to enlarge an enabling law that will shield investors in the country because before now there   are no such laws and that the investors are investing money at their own risk relying only on the agreement with NPA and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
