There are indications that the long holidays embarked upon last week by Muslims all over the country may have caused the supply of kerosene to be reduced even as indications have emerged that there was a shortfall in the supply of the product last week.
Reliable sources confirmed to Shipping Position Daily last week that, “the long holidays of last week, coupled with the non-availability of the product right before the holidays has affected the supply of the product, the price has also gone up by N3 margin at the depot”.

The source also confirmed that many of the tanker drivers carrying out the supply are Muslims and that they were not on ground to channel it to the fuel stations. According to him, “this has caused artificial scarcity at some filling stations across the towns”.
Speaking with our correspondent, a member of the Surface Tanks Kerosene Dealers Association and Dealers (SUTAKEP) however explained that officially, Kerosene is meant to sell at N50 per litre, but it now goes for N85 at the depots.
Our source who spoke under anonymity attributed the problem to non-functioning of local refineries to full capacity; he said that this has forced government to import in order to meet local consumption.
The marketers also called on the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation [NNPC] as the major distributor to spread the distribution of kerosene to other marketers and make it all- inclusive. He accused the federal government of neglecting some of the marketers on kerosene importation and delaying in settling their reimbursement claims.
He further alleged that for more than 10 years now, the NNPC Ejigbo satellite deport has not had Kerosene while other filling stations have to go to Apapa depot to buy from individual tank farms and that “the tank farms sell to them at any price they wish, for this, they will now add their own money in order to cover both the money they used in purchasing the goods and the money for transportation”
