SFL Corporation’s new-build Pure Truck and Car Carrier (PCTC) named “ODIN HIGHWAY” was successfully delivered by China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International on January 19th. The vessel is to be chartered by the Japanese K-Line for 10 years. The shipyard states this is the third LNG-powered PCTC it has ever built. This vessel is part of a four-vessel order placed by SFL Corporation at the Guangzhou Shipyard in 2021.
The first vessel of this order, the “EMDEN,” was delivered in September 2023, followed by the “WOLFSBURG,” which was delivered in November of the same year. Volkswagen, the German automobile manufacturer, chartered both of these PCTCs.
SFL Corporation has stated on its website that it expects to receive the Thor Highway in the second quarter of 2024. The last two vessels in the four-vessel order, namely the “ODIN HIGHWAY” and the “Thor Highway,” will be chartered by K-Line in 2024. All four vessels share similar dimensions, having a length of 200 meters, a width of 38 meters, a design draft of 8.6 meters, and a capacity of 7000 CEU (car equivalent units). The vessels are powered by a MAN ME-GI two-stroke main engine and two 1.675 cubic meter LNG storage tanks. The ship’s dual fuel propulsion system gives it a mileage of 15,000 nautical miles and a design speed of 19 knots.
