SGS Trains Freight Forwarders On Destination Inspection Scheme

Frontline Destination Inspection (DI) Service Provider; SGS Scanning Nigeria Limited has organised a two- day intensive training for members of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) to assist them adopt industry best practices under the destination inspection scheme.
The capacity building workshop under the theme, “Overview of the Destination Inspection Scheme and the Role of the Freight Forwarders” was aimed at complimenting efforts by the Federal Government aimed at the attainment of 48-hour clearance target for imports into the country,
Participants at the workshop included the Governing Board Members of the CRFFN as well as leaders of all the approved freight forwarding and customs agents associations in the country, which are members of CRFFN, namely National Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA), National Association of Government Approved  Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN), National Council for Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), FFAN, PTMAN and ICCAR.
Expressing delight at the training programme, the Chairman of CRFFN’s Governing Council, Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju commended SGS Scanning Nigeria Limited for supporting capacity building and professionalism of the freight forwarding industry in the country.
“ We are quite impressed with the commitment, integrity and expertise shown by SGS as a service provider under the DI scheme, we in the freight forwarding profession regard the company as a partner- in- progress and would continue to partner with SGS in moving the business of export and import forward in Nigeria”, he said.
Also speaking on behalf of his colleagues, President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu described the training exercise as timely and desirable. Nigerian freight forwarders he said are eager to play bigger roles in the global freight and logistics industry, this type of training by SGS would definitely help towards making it a reality.
 “I have been dealing with SGS for years and it is one organisation which has shown that it has got all it takes as far as experience, expertise and the relevant technology for this job is concerned. On behalf of the Nigerian freight forwarding family, I appeal to SGS to make this training more regular”.
The well structured training exposed the 50 participants to the appropriate documentation process and procedures for achieving fast and cost effective customs clearance under the DI programme. The topics treated included “Overview of the Destination Inspection Scheme (Objectives, Business Process, and Trade Documents)”, “Introduction to International Trade Terminologies with emphasis on Incoterms” and “Introduction to Customs Classification”.
Other topics are “Introduction to WTO Agreement on Customs Valuation”, “Goods Description under DI Project” and “Risk Management and Destination Inspection Scheme”. There was a case review on the Challenges of Cargo Consolidation/Groupage as its impact on Customs Valuation.
