The Registered Trustees of Shippers Association Lagos State (SALS) have filed an application before a Federal High Court in Lagos, seeking to be joined as co-defendant with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in the suit brought against the council by the Shipping Association of Nigeria (SAN). The case comes up today.
In a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos on Friday by counsel to SALS, Barrister Osuala Nwagbara said that shippers are interested in supporting the Council because of the general public.

In a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos on Friday by counsel to SALS, Barrister Osuala Nwagbara said that shippers are interested in supporting the Council because of the general public.
Nwagbara stated that members of Shippers Association Lagos State have been at the receiving end in the matter of alleged arbitrary increase in local shipping charges and there is the need to support the shippers’ council.
Confirming the development, Nwagbara said: SALS, "today Friday 14th day of November 2014 filed an application before Honourable Justice Buba of the Federal High Court seeking to join as co-defendant with the Nigerian Shippers Council in suit No. FHC/L/CS/1646/2014 filed by the Association of Shipping Line Agents together with its 12 members.
The lawyer stated that the Shippers Association Lagos State is a necessary party to the suit because the interest of its members would be affected by the outcome of the case.
Nwagbara said that one way or the other, it is only right that they be given an opportunity to be heard before the issue of local shipping charges is decided.
