The Director General of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr Joseph Odumodu, on Monday urged importers to register their products on or before June 30 to avoid being sanctioned.
Odumodu told journalists in Lagos that the aim was to enable the organisation trace every product to reduce the influx of substandard products into the country.
He reiterated that importers found wanting would be sanctioned by July.

According to him, the e-products registration scheme, launched recently, is part of SON’s campaign on Zero Tolerance to Substandard Products.
He said that operators could sit in the comfort of their offices and homes and register their products online.
“All we did was to re-jig the process to meet the current global reality of ICT compliance because it reduces the stress and the duration associated with the analogue process,’’ he said.
Odumodu said that the initiative would help to build a database of products for easy tracing and reference.
According to him, beginning from July 1, there will be an enforcement team that will confiscate products that are not registered.
Odumodu said that SON had set up an electronic security system with other agencies to alert the organisation whenever any product arrived in the country.
The SON DG said that the organisation would continue to ensure the promotion of certified made-in-Nigeria products.
He urged Nigerians to watch out for products with Nigeria Mark of Quality (NIS) before buying.
