Government’s move to discourage importation of new vehicles into the country has received yet another boost following moves by an Egyptian firm; , Tanta Motors to establish an assembly plant in Borno state, northern Nigeria.
General Manager of the company, Engineer Alaa Aboufreeikha, who was accompanied by two other experts from the company, including Engineer Mohammed Elkhadary and Engineer Mohammed Saber, confirmed this when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Kashim Shettima at the government house in Maiduguri, last week.

General Manager of the company, Engineer Alaa Aboufreeikha, who was accompanied by two other experts from the company, including Engineer Mohammed Elkhadary and Engineer Mohammed Saber, confirmed this when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Kashim Shettima at the government house in Maiduguri, last week.
He said his presence in Maiduguri was a follow- up on an earlier visit which Shettima undertook to Cairo about three weeks ago, during which the Borno State government and Tanta Motors signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bringing modern farming techniques and equipment to the doorsteps of Borno farmers.
"Our visit today has confirmed to us that there is a big agro allied market in Borno State which is bordering three countries, including Niger, Cameroon and Chad. The presence of the tributaries of the Lake Chad equally makes Borno a prosperous agricultural state which our company will like to work closely with," Aboufreikha said.
In his response, Shettima said ‘’his government will give Tanta Motors all the necessary support to establish a plant in the state. "We are determined to empower our people to go into mechanized farming instead of using hoes for subsistent farming," he said.
