Two bulk carriers, MV Katherine and MV Baru Satu, collided last Thursday in the Aegean Sea, southwest of the Andros Island, Greece, the Hellenic Coast Guard reported.
Accordingly, the vessels rammed each other’s hulls, damaging MV Katherine’s portside and causing the vessel to start taking in water. The Coast Guard’s officials said that there is no danger of flooding and that the situation is under control. MV Baru Satu suffered bow damage with no water ingress reported.

Accordingly, the vessels rammed each other’s hulls, damaging MV Katherine’s portside and causing the vessel to start taking in water. The Coast Guard’s officials said that there is no danger of flooding and that the situation is under control. MV Baru Satu suffered bow damage with no water ingress reported.
Nine of 23 MV Katherine’s crew members were boarded on a Coast Guard patrol boat and transferred to the port of Karystos while the remaining 14 stayed on board, the same as the MV Baru Satu’s crew of 17 members.
The Coast Guard deployed patrol vessels and a naval helicopter to monitor the situation at the accident site. What is more, tug boats from the port of Rafina arrived at the site as well.
Until now, there is no information about moving the ships from the collision site or any plans to do so.
MV Katherine, sailing under Maltese flag was on its way from Novorossiysk to Italy when it collided with MV Baru Satu, a Panama flagged vessels heading to Bulgaria.
