Uncertainties heightened over the weekend about the whereabouts of the immediate past Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh, after a family source claimed that the public servant-turned politician was allegedly taken away by yet-to-be-identified persons, who allegedly dressed as officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Commission (ICPC).

The information about Jamoh’s alleged arrest was disclosed by one Kazeem Olajide, who claimed to be raising the alarm on behalf of Jamoh’s family. In the report, he said on Sunday that the former NIMASA DG was abducted on January 29, 2026 in Kaduna.

In the alarm, Olajide said: “On the 29th of January at about 12:00 noon, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, a law-abiding citizen, was intercepted by unknown gunmen wearing ICPC jackets while returning from the court to his residence. He was forcibly taken to his home, which was subsequently raided, before being transported from Kaduna to Abuja”.

He alerted that, “since his abduction, all efforts to contact or locate Dr. Jamoh have proven unsuccessful. He has been denied access to his family and legal counsel, leaving his loved ones in deep anguish and uncertainty. His continued incommunicado detention and unknown whereabouts raise serious concerns about his safety, well-being, and the violation of his fundamental human rights”.

Jamoh concluded his four-year tenure as DG of NIMASA on March 10, 2024, and was succeeded by Dr. Dayo Mobereola.

He was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari. He spent over 30 years at NIMASA, rising through the ranks from a Principal Commercial Officer to Executive Director of Finance and Administration before becoming the Director General.

After leaving office in 2024, je joined partisan politics. He is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He was a gubernatorial aspirant in Kaduna State for the 2023 general elections but stepped down following party consultations to support another candidate.

As of late 2025, he claimed to have received calls from his constituents to run for Kaduna North Senatorial Seat in the 2027 elections. He has since been pursuing that cause.
