The Vice President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Princess Chi Ezeh, has commended the leadership of Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, Area Controller of the Apapa Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), for achieving an unprecedented N2 trillion revenue milestone without disrupting trade operations.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Princess Chi praised Comptroller Olomu for seamlessly balancing revenue generation with trade facilitation, a rare feat in the nation’s customs operations. She described the achievement as a reflection of his inclusive leadership style and his ability to foster collaboration with stakeholders across the port.
“Comptroller Olomu has integrated freight forwarders, shippers, and other stakeholders into his trade facilitation strategy, which resulted in this record-breaking N2 trillion revenue collection. The remarkable part is that this was accomplished without compromising the operations of the trading community or freight forwarding sector,” she noted.
The N2 trillion milestone, achieved as of November 20, 2024, represents the highest revenue ever collected by the Apapa Command in a single year, despite challenges posed by low trade volumes. Princess Chi lauded Comptroller Olomu for his focus on preventing revenue leakages and maximizing collections while maintaining positive relationships with port users.
The achievement has earned Comptroller Olomu three notable awards at the CGC Award Night: Best Command in Trade Facilitation (Ports), Best Command in Revenue Generation, and Customs Area Controller of the Year (2024). Princess Chi emphasized that these recognitions were well-deserved and reflective of his exceptional leadership.
“Olomu truly merits the ‘Best Controller of the Year’ award. His ability to deliver such outstanding results while preserving the interests of the freight forwarding community is unparalleled. This leadership approach should serve as a model for other Customs Area Controllers,” she added.
Upon receiving the awards in Abuja, Comptroller Olomu dedicated the accolades to his team, describing the successes as the result of collective effort, dedication, and stakeholder collaboration. “No leader can succeed without the support of a committed team,” he stated, urging stakeholders to continue their cooperation.
