I think there is sincerity of purpose in this present administration, but the truth of the matter is that, one thing is for government to approve N70billion for Tin Can-Apapa road, another thing is for them to release the money to the contractor that will handle it, if the funds have been released, by now we should see the contractor at site, for now they are not at site.

Truly, we have suffered the worst part of the situation, looking at what we are seeing physically now, I think the road situation is improving, today I drove from Coconut to Apapa, I have not done this in the last six months, it is just this month we started doing that, we have been assured that the Apapa road will be opened up this month, but truly speaking it is an eyesore that a port that is the gateway to the nation’s economy is in this state. The money government kept mentioning on television is more than enough to fix the roads, but they will not do it. However, in 2019, we would look for credible people and give them our vote.

The matter of infrastructure in this country has become a very big problem for the government; this is what they met on ground. For example, the access road to the Apapa port according to Governor Ambode would be opened in September this year, as the government has said that it has given them money, it is a question of three years and the Tin Can Island road would be fixed, let us have confidence in them that the road would be fixed, after all the money has been given out, so it is not that they are still planning.

I think the government is not sincere, this is because over the years we have heard so many of these promises of reconstructing the port roads, until we as practitioners in the maritime industry begin to see the actions and also see the completion, then we would now agree with the government that, of a truth you are committed to fixing the road. If you go out there and check the port access roads, none of them are in good shape, virtually all of them are in deplorable state, are we progressing as a nation or retrogressing? The federal government should be the one to answer the question.

Going by the state of work going on there (port road) and the standard too, I think they have shown some level of sincerity and, the nature the contract was initially, there was a tax rebate, there will be a tax holiday so I think they have shown some level of sincerity on the work.

From what I have seen so far, I think the government is sincere, because they are trying their best. You know, when you are talking about road; you have to look at it holistically, nationwide. This administration inherited some bad road and they are fixing everything, I have seen that they have given the construction of the Apapa-Oshodi road to AG Dangote. I believe that the work will commence fully when they complete the Apapa ports road, they cannot start the two works at the same time.

They are working on it now, so I think government is sincere. I am sure they are sincere because work has been going on there for some time now.

I think there is some level of sincerity in the work, at least that of the wharf road, the other side which is Tin Can Port, they are applying palliatives; I saw them putting gravels over there. Let’s watch and see what they are doing, the government said that the road will be ready for use within the next six weeks, and one week is over so we are left with five weeks. So I think they are sincere with what they are doing.
