·         Bulk Carrier Thanh Thanh Dat 99 Grounds off Vietnam Coast During Storm Kajiki

In the early hours of 26th August, the Vietnam-flagged carrier Thanh Thanh Dat 99 ran aground off the coast of Binh village, Thanh Hoa Province, Vietnam. All 19 crew members on board were reported safe, and no pollution or oil spill was reported.

According to initial information, the vessel had departed Tinh Long port on the afternoon of 25th August, bound for Nghi Son port, Thanh Hoa, to deliver cargo. While approaching the anchorage at approximately 01:30 am local time on 26th August, the vessel was caught in severe conditions brought by Tropical Storm Kajiki. Heavy seas and strong winds prevented the crew from anchoring, causing the ship to drift ashore and ground just 70–100 meters from the coastline.

The local unit of the Vietnam Border Guard Force and Nghi Son Port Authority are closely monitoring the situation. Authorities are implementing safety measures and are mobilising equipment to refloat the vessel once weather conditions improve.

Thanh Thanh Dat 99 is a Wood Chips Carrier that was built in 2001. The vessel has a carrying capacity of 22,332 tonnes and measures 151 meters in length and 26 meters in width.
