The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has placed the blame for the current crisis that is rocking the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) on the doorstep of a former minister of water transportation, Chief Okechukwu Emeka and the Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC).
The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has placed the blame for the current crisis that is rocking the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) on the doorstep of a former minister of water transportation, Chief Okechukwu Emeka and the Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC).
Speaking through its national publicity secretary; Mr Increase Uche, NAGAFF, which is currently in the forefront of the confrontation with the governing council of CRFFN, said in an online statement sent to Shipping Position Daily that had the minister and the Shippers’ Council prepared a ‘genuine voters register for the elections that ushered in the first set of council members, there would not have been problems.
According to the association, the current face-off “is traceable to the failure of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the former Minister of Water Transportation to prepare a genuine
register of Freight Forwarders and midwife the maiden election of the Council in line with the CRFFN Act 16 of 2007 and its intendment”.
Confirming that the association, alongside the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has issues with CRFFN, NAGAFF alleged that the CRFFN does not have a properly constituted governing board, four years after it commenced operations.
“It is rather unfortunate that the former Minister of Water Transportation is not around now to witness the disorder which his failure to act then has caused the Council”, even as it alleged further that the former minister wrongly midwifed the council.
‘We appreciate the fact that the Executive Secretary of NSC who is about to retire from service is not impressed with the situation in the Council, but we believe he needs to go a step further”, NAGAFF stated, even as it praised the Shippers Council boss; Capt Adamu Biu for according to it, giving the former minster genuine advise that was not taken. “
“Never late than never says the old adage, we still believe the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council can redress the situation by liaising with the present Minister of Transport to make amends before he finally retires from office.”
“The idea of the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Shippers’ Council keeping silent over the disorder in CRFFN may rightly or wrongly portray him as an accomplice in the decay which has set in over the CRFFN administration and management, and posterity may not be fair to him.”
According to NAGAFF, “the alleged claim by some Council members that the Nigeria Customs
Service is remotely working against CRFFN’s relevance is preposterous and baseless. The fact is that it is a law of natural justice that those who come to equity must come with clean hands. It is also natural to state that those who get to power or assume authority through the back door shall equally leave through the back door.”
The association however gave kudos to the the chairman of the Council, Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju, the Registrar, Mr. Mike Jukwe, National President ANCLA’ Prince Olayiwola
