The Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp has taken delivery of a new 11,000 TEU container vessel, the YM TROPHY. Yang-ming intends to put its new ship on its trans-pacific route PS-6 for efficient transportation services connecting Asia and the Southwest pacific.

The YM TROPHY has a length of 333.9m, a width of 48.4m, and a draft of 16m. It can travel at a speed of 23 knots and has a capacity of 11,860 TEU and 1,000 plugs for reefer containers. It also features a twin-island design for heightened loading capacity and navigational visibility. The YM TROPHY has several environmental features such as scrubbers, a water ballast treatment plant, and an alternative marine power system. Given the relatively compact form of the vessel, it can easily navigate during berthing and departure. Its size also ensures that the ship passes through the Panama canal without restriction. The rotation of ports for its maiden voyage is Qingdao – Ningbo – Busan – Los Angeles – Kobe – Qingdao.

This new vessel is retained on a long-term charter from Shoei Kisen Kaisha. Ltd. and was constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. This particular vessel is the 10th of its kind in Yang Ming’s fleet and is part of a recent order placed by Yang Ming, which constitutes the order of 14 such ships through long-term charter agreements from shipowners. The YM TROPHY and its compatriot’s vessels will be deployed on Yang Ming’s Transpacific Southwest service PS6, Far East South America service, and Transpacific Northwest service PN2 and PN3.
