Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has declared that the oil- rich state and oil producing communities in the state are prepared to acquire equities of up to 10 per cent in any gas company operating in the state.
The Governor made the offer last week in Abuja at an investors’ forum where he stressed the state government’s plans for the Nigerian Gas Master Plan (NGMP).
But speaking at the same event, Bayelsa Commissioner for Energy, Mr Maxwell Oko, emphasised that the state government is taking the issue of insecurity very seriously adding that by virtue of its rating and affirmation as Nigeria’s oil industry location, it can not afford to treat security lightly.
Arguing that the state is relatively the most peaceful state in the Niger Delta region, the commissioner added that critical issues which border on hostage taking, kidnap, pipeline vandalism, illegal bunkering, operations of sea pirates, extortion and increasing agitation for resource control were being meaningfully and responsibly addressed
