Tanker explosion, fire, 1 crew missing, Bangkok

TANKER EXPLOSION

Product tanker SMOOTH SEA 2, berthed at suffered explosion, fire, on cargo deck, in the morning Mar 9 at IRPC Co pier, Samut Parakan, Bangkok. Tanker arrived at Bangkok from Rayong in the evening Mar 8, with cargo of gasoil and diesel oil. One crew was injured and taken to hospital, one went missing. Tanker was about to leave Bangkok after offloading cargo, understood gas in tank or tanks exploded, because of some negligence. Fire was taken under control by fire teams in about an hour.

Tanker aground, southwest Java

Asphalt tanker EDRICKO 3 ran aground at Sancang Beach, Cibalong District, Garut Regency, southwest Java, in the evening Mar 8, while en route from Ketapang to Cilacap Indonesia, after steering failure. Authorities are waiting for tug, to refloat tanker. No spill reported. Tanker is probably, in ballast.

Car carrier severely damaged in head-on collision, dry docked, Spain

Car carrier INTEGRADOR suffered heavy damages in a head-on collision with, reportedly, islet, in Mediterranean, while en route to Spain, exact date unknown, probably late Feb. the ship arrived at Malaga on Mar 5, and is already dry docked. Bulbous bow was crushed, starboard hull in forecastle area sustained a huge breach.

Chinese freighter aground, southeast Taiwan

CHINESE FREIGHTER

General cargo ship UNIPROFIT lost power and drifted aground at night Mar 7 off Jigang port, southeast Taiwan. Understood the ship dropped anchor, but anchor dragged. UNIPROFIT with cargo of 149 containers is en route from Yantai China to Bahodopi, Sulawesi, Indonesia. 16 crew remain on board, no spill reported. Maritime authorities and CG are expecting tug from Kaohsiung, to refloat UNIPROFIT.

MSC container ship disabled, adrift in Gulf of St. Lawrence

Container ship MSC KIM was disabled after engine failure in Gulf of St. Lawrence, probably as early as Mar 6, awaiting towage. The ship is en route from Halifax to Montreal, ETA Mar 8. As of 0050 UTC Mar 10, she was still adrift some 30 nm west of western Newfoundland, no tug yet in sight.
