Afolabi, Haastrup, Other Industry Titans To Unveil MWUN Inaugural Edition Of “Maritime Labour Voice” Magazine

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is poised to make history on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, as industry stalwarts, including the Chairman of SIFAX Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, come together to unveil the inaugural edition of the groundbreaking magazine, “Maritime Labour Voice.”

 

The ceremony according to a press statement issued by the union head of media Com. Kennedy Ikemefuna  is set to take place at the prestigious RockView Hotel in Apapa, Lagos, starting at 11 am.

 

The union stated that esteemed figures from the maritime industry, such as Dr. Taiwo Afolabi and Dr. (Mrs.) Vicky Haastrup, Chairman of Seaports Terminal Operators (STOAN), will headline the event, leading a gathering of key stakeholders in a momentous celebration of MWUN’s latest endeavor.

 

The union stated that “The Maritime Labour Voice Magazine” is a testament to MWUN’s commitment to fostering dialogue and discourse on pivotal issues within Nigeria’s maritime sector adding that the glossy, all-colour publication stands as a beacon of the Union’s dedication to providing a platform for the convergence of ideas and discussions crucial to the industry’s advancement.

 

The official unveiling of the magazine will be led by Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, the Executive Chairman of SIFAX Group, who will serve as the Chief Launcher. This historic occasion will witness the participation and support of eminent personalities and key players in the maritime sector.

 

Com. Adewale Adeyanju, President-General of MWUN and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), emphasized the critical role of MWUN as a major stakeholder in the sector. He stated that the magazine, aptly titled “Maritime Labour Voice,” will amplify the Union’s presence, allowing it to contribute significantly to crucial industry discussions.

 

The union also stated that Dr. Haastrup, Chairman of STOAN and Chairman of the unveiling event, expressed her support for the initiative, highlighting the importance of MWUN’s voice in shaping the maritime narrative. Eminent stakeholders and captains of industry will join her in this celebration.

 

The unveiling ceremony is expected to draw attendance from top government officials, dignitaries representing various sectors, and affiliates of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). Notable Keynote Speakers will address the gathering on the theme, “The effects and impact of Blue Economy,” shedding light on the Union’s role in navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by the new normal.
