Self-acclaimed president of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agent (NCLMDA) Prince Emeka Obi Eze has been arraigned along with three others for allegedly defrauding the federal government of the sum N727, 875.

The charge sheet no B/59/09 that was made available to our correspondent showed that a six count charge was preferred against Obi Eze and three others who were said to be at large. The offence was committed on December 21, 2009 in Lagos.

The three accused were alleged to have stamped the agency license of Project Technical Limited with which they did a clearing job at the Customs Processing Centre in Apapa port without paying the N727, 875 customs duty. They were said to have been unable to show any evidence of having made any payments.

He was alleged to have “further forged a receipt of this document of TCI/8 79267 and went away with goods valued at N727, 875, only without payment and as a result, the agency’s license and business were blocked and which caused the agency to lose N220,000, thereby committed an offence punishable under section 419 (a) and 467(6) of the criminal code law cap C17 Vol 2 Laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2003.

The defendant was also accused of refusing to be interrogated and gave false declaration and statement to the police on the case against him at the station after his arrest.

The defendant pleaded not guilty while the case has been adjourned to February
