Amiwero Calls on Government to Build Capacity for Stakeholders

The Managing Director, Eyis Resources Limited, Mr Lucky Amiwero has called on the Federal Government to put infrastructures in place to ensure effective capacity building of stakeholders in the maritime industry.
At a graduation ceremony of licensed customs agents  after a free computer appreciation training programme which held in Lagos on Monday ,Amiwero noted that lack of capacity building in the country and most especially, the maritime industry is causing a set back for development

At a graduation ceremony of licensed customs agents  after a free computer appreciation training programme which held in Lagos on Monday ,Amiwero noted that lack of capacity building in the country and most especially, the maritime industry is causing a set back for development
He noted that the federal government has not made effort in the area of training, adding that there is the need to have effective tools for training rather than organise seminar, workshop and symposium.
The frontline licensed agent also added that the maritime industry has not been able to move forward as a result of lack of adequate training of the practitioners and other operators.
“It is germane to note that without capacity building you cannot really build your industry and all over the world capacity building takes a lot of chunk of the fund because capacity building transforms a structure of an institutions and also the personnel of that institution and makes the person a better person’’, he stated.
According to him, most of the participants that underwent the six week training programme are transformed and redefined when it comes to information technology which he stressed to be an ingredient in manpower development.
‘’What we have given to them is not what can be stolen because it will be with them forever and these are some of the things we do to impact on our community and the nation in general”.
“The country is moving backward instead of moving forward in terms of the maritime industry because there is no capacity building, workshops and seminars are not capacity building, because technical materials can transform lives and make you a better person for you to be able to apply your tools effectively and enhance what you are doing for the betterment of the country, yourself and your industry as well” Amiwero noted.
He reiterated that government should embark on creating an enabling environment where practitioners of every sector of the economy can be engaged with one training programme or the other, stressing that without capacity building, no nation can grow.
He noted that the programme was run in anticipation of transforming the agents so that they could be better practitioners and understand the process better.
The six-week programme was attended by 21 participants who also and were issued with   certificate of participation.
