Secretary of the ANLCA Tin Can Chapter, Mr. Chucks Kanikwu Davies in a chat with Shipping Position Dailyin Lagos on Tuesday disclosed that the commissioning is to ensure that members of the chapter have a rallying point where they can practice sustainable freight forwarding.

Secretary of the ANLCA Tin Can Chapter, Mr. Chucks Kanikwu Davies in a chat with Shipping Position Dailyin Lagos on Tuesday disclosed that the commissioning is to ensure that members of the chapter have a rallying point where they can practice sustainable freight forwarding.
Kanikwu noted that the Tin Can Port is an elite port, but lamented that the division which the association had witnessed during its chapter elections last year affected the pace of the performance of the present executives.
The secretariat according to him is the first dividend that members of the chapter will enjoy in addition to the smooth and cordial relationship that has been created for them with officers of the Nigeria Customs Service.
"We are doing this for posterity sake and in line with what the national headquarters did. We started by securing a functional office and we will migrate into getting a building as permanent site, it is a sacrifice we want to give to our supporters who voted for us".
"We have plans to build a permanent secretariat and I know that with the wisdom of the chairman, we will get land within this vicinity before the end of his tenure", Kanikwu assured.
According to him, in the history of Tin Can, whenever executives are leaving office, they usually convert their secretariat into personal offices and this would have scuttled the in-coming administration from having a base. "We were also victims of this" he said.
He said that the secretariat will serve as a platform for upcoming executives ones when it is completed.
Apart from the ANLCA President and the Customs CAC, other dignitaries expected include: Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) shipping companies and others who have things to do with Tin Can port.
"These people are important in our chain of business, and it is important for them to know that we have a functional place where they can come and rub minds with us, it will not always be us going to meet them at their offices, we add value to them and they must also add value to us".
"The benefit is that in the past when our members have problems, they don't know where to go to but with this secretariat, we are going to have a functional help desk, and the secretariat will equally serve as a rallying point for all customs brokers at Tin Can port. It is a rallying point to enthrone sustainable freight forwarding practice".
"The executives of this chapter want to leave a legacy, the chapter belongs to all of us as members of ANLCA, our chairman in his wisdom, the way he got the office marveled us, but the idea is not to perpetuate ourselves", he said.
