ANLCA To Engage Five Star Logistics Over Use Of Barge For Transfer Of Vehicles

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents said that it has commenced plans to prevail on foremost RoRo terminal operator; Five Star Logistics Limited on the need to acquire barges for the transfer of imported vehicles from Tin Can Island Port to KLT.
The association said that the move to discuss with the possibility of using barges with the terminal operator is aimed at boosting business activities at KLT and to ensure that agents are more engaged in the clearing of vehicles from the terminal.

The association said that the move to discuss with the possibility of using barges with the terminal operator is aimed at boosting business activities at KLT and to ensure that agents are more engaged in the clearing of vehicles from the terminal.
In chat with Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week, Chairman ,Caretaker Committee of KLT Chapter of ANLCA, Mr. Chukwunonso Chukwudinma said that transfer of vehicles to KLT will create jobs for members of the association and will also generate revenue for the Customs and the Government of the country.
Chukwudinma said that there is the need to discuss with the concessionaire to bring in vehicles to the terminal through the use of barges as it will make the place to boom with operational activities.
He said there has been tremendous improvement since the introduction of vehicles transfer from the Tin Can port to Kirikiri terminals, adding that it has created jobs for agents.
According to him, rehabilitation works are still on going to expand the terminal in order to accommodate more vehicles from the port.
The chairman noted that vehicles clearance from KLT is increasing on a daily basis pointing out that the concessionaire needs to invest more so as to make more profit and also to render better services to its clients.
"Part of our agenda in the last meeting is that we are going to visit Five Star Logistics Terminal at Tin Can Island to discuss with them about the need to acquire barges that can transfer vehicles from the port to KLT", he  stated. "In the next two weeks, we will do that because there is need for it”
"There has been tremendous improvement in the car park; our boys have been working as regards facilitating the clearance of vehicles from the car park".
"And this is the reason why we want to advice the terminal operator on the need to acquire barges for the transfer of vehicles to KLT".
Chukwudinma also added that the transfer of vehicles to the terminal via the road from the port is slow and takes a longer time, stressing that, with barges more vehicles can be transferred at a shorter period of time.
