Anxiety Grips ANLCA as NEC Moves Against Tribal Lords

Fear of imminent  breakdown of law and other and a possible split has griped the lairdship of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA).
The association’s national executive committee met in Port Harcourt, Rivers State last week where it was resolved that members who have openly associated with any of the emerging tribal groupings in the association must be suspended.
The meeting which was attended by the Association’s chairman, board of trustees, Chief Henry Njoku, immediate past president and other executives of the association from all the chapters admitted that the antics of the groups were capable of undermining its unity and threaten its continued existence.
Shipping Position Weekly reliably gathered from sources who attended the meeting that it reviewed the activities of the association’s electoral committee and resolved that the committee has not been able to conduct elections into most of the chapters where elections were due because of the do or die influence of the tribal sub-groups which have been fanning embers of disunity.
Although, our correspondent could not confirm the identities of those that would be sanctioned, it was learnt that some of those who sensed that the clampdown may affect them are also not sleeping.
One of the leaders of the tribal groups who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that “the so called NEC meeting wants to move against the so called tribal group that brought them to where they are in the association”.
“ANLCA is our own and nobody can force anyone out and nobody can suspend me, I am first and foremost, a Yoruba man before being a member of ANLCA”, the chieftain told our correspondent on the telephone in response to the outcome of the Port Harcourt meeting.
Our source also informed that apart from the impending clampdown on the tribal elements within the association, the meeting also mandated its electoral committee which is headed by another former president, Alhaji Inua Mohammed to conduct all outstanding elections into chapters and national executive councils within three months.
