The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recorded a landmark daily collection of N17,903,312,598. This figure according to a press statement issued by the public relations officer of the Command, Abubakar Usman marks the highest daily revenue recorded by the command since its inception.
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, who recently took office as the Customs Area Controller (CAC), celebrated this milestone as a significant indicator of the command’s enhanced efficiency and dedication to its duties.
Olomu attributed the success to the strategic leadership and motivating guidance of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
He emphasized that the officers and men under his command are committed to maintaining and exceeding the high standard of performance.
“This unprecedented collection is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Apapa Command,” Olomu remarked. “We are not just focused on revenue collection, but also on trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations, which are crucial to our national economy”, he affirmed.
In addition to the record revenue, the CAC noted that the Apapa Command recently intercepted two containers filled with used clothing and Crusader soap, both of which are contraband items.
He noted that the seizure underscores the command’s ongoing commitment to combating smuggling and protecting the Nigerian economy from the influx of prohibited goods.
Olomu called on port users to adhere strictly to import and export guidelines, ensure prompt and accurate payment of duties, and engage in lawful operations.
He stressed the importance of these practices not only for compliance but also for promoting national interest and economic growth.
“Our goal is to create a seamless and efficient port environment that facilitates legitimate trade while cracking down on illegal activities,” Olomu said.
