The Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) has assured the recently -formed Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee.(LASTCOC) of adequate cooperation for effective haulage operations in Lagos.
The assurance was given on Tuesday when the committee paid a courtesy and familiarization visit to the General Manager of LASTMA,  Mr Bolaji Oreagba.
The committee had gone to see how it could synergize with LASTMA to enhance traffic sanity, orderliness and safety of life of road users, especially in the Apapa/Tincan logistics corridors.
The Lagos State Truck and Cargo Operators Committee was formed  recently by the Lagos State Government, with Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo as it’s chairman.
It was mandated to serve as a channel of communication between the State Government and the maritime trucking community and also to serve as a means of implementing government policy on ease of transportation business in the state.
The committee  was also created to address the menace of  street urchins, popularly called ‘area boys’ and also check issues of multiple tickets being imposed on truckers by various road transport unions, local governments and non-state actors.
While receiving his guests, The GM of  LASTMA congratulated Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo and members of his committee on  their appointments.
He equally expressed readiness of LASTMA to work with the committee to  promote the Lagos State Government THEMES + Agenda in the area of transportation for economic growth and development of Lagos State.
He advised the committee to sensitize drivers on the need to comply with traffic rules and regulations all the time and desist from fighting LASTMA operatives.
He also counselled them against indiscriminate parking of trucks causing traffic obstruction along the Apapa/Tincan Ports corridors for traffic and sanity orderliness purpose.
On his part, Alhaji Lukman Shittu Zangalo appreciated the LASTMA GM for hosting the committee and promised that the committee would give maximum support to LASTMA to achieve its mandate of promoting free flow traffic in Lagos State without rancour and acrimony.
