The Association of Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has taken a swipe at the duo of concessionaire; APM Terminal and its sister company Maersk Line alleging that they are the major problems of the maritime sector in Nigeria. According to the association, the two companies impose questionable charges.
The association’s position was made known by one of its front line members; the Secretary of its Board Of Trustees; Prince Taiye Oyeniyi, who also alleged that the Danish companies are deliberately starving off dock terminals under Apapa command of Customs of containers.
The ANLCA chieftain made this known yesterday at the handing-over ceremony to new executives of the Apapa Chapter 1 of the association held in Lagos.
Oyeniyi alleged that APMT is depriving bonded terminals of containers, adding that the practice is unfavourable for business to thrive. He also said that the practice is one of those factors that are militating against smooth flow of containers out of the premier port in Lagos.
He also charged the media to be objective in their reportage, alleging that some journalists are subjective because they are consultants to the firm.
He charged the new ANLCA chairman of the chapter; Mr Olumide Fakanlu to confront the concessionaires on issues that affect clearing of goods as the national headquarters of the association is solidly behind the chapter.
He also said that the idea behind port concession was to make them user-friendly and also reduce cost, but lamented that such has not been achieved.
"When APMT took over the port, they made it absolutely impossible for bonded terminals to have containers, majority of the bonded terminals are lying fallow because there are no containers there".
"If Maersk Line is giving us two weeks to position a containers in the port and there are nine other terminals under Apapa command, the question will be- what is the problem, but the truth is that they want to keep all the money they are making for themselves by milking Nigerians ".
Oyeniyi charged the Danish company to do what is right in ensuring that the eight other terminals under Apapa command are fed with containers.
