The question I keep on asking is to know if ANCLA is an association or trade union, because I have not heard about ANCLA doing one training programme or empower or enlighten their members to the development of the industry, rather they look for selfish means to satisfy their conscience .Really it is sad to say this but so many things need to be put in place by this association .Really I don’t know if they are at trade union or an association because even union do empower their members in such a way to acquire knowledge in their various endeavour .So it is sad to note that the present leadership of ANLCA has not performed.
Prince Obums Anene [Dep.Nat. President, NAGAFF]
Prince Olayiwola Shittu is indeed a good leader, in fact the national executives under him has moved ANLCA from where it was before to another level, in other words he has been able to let his members know the importance of discipline and it has worked for him. However it is also a known fact that he is working tirelessly to make sure that the association succeed which other chapters executives have been emulating do far. If I am to score the national executives of ANLCA, I will give them 60% and I want to believe it is a good score for them.

How can one say that the national executive of ANLCA has performed where things like arbitrary charges are still in existence and our leaders that cannot rise to the occasion to address the issue once and for all? It is also sad to say that everybody is concerned about himself or herself, but as an association, it should be injury to one is an injury to all, but it is not so with the association. How many times has the present leadership of ANLCA paid courtesy visit to the ports and other chapters to know the challenges that confront them? The Shittu- led team has not lived up to expectation because so many things are not right at the moment.
Chief Achike Molokwu [Stakeholder]
President Shittu as the present leader of the association is doing a wonderfully well .If not for the fact that the national executives are living above board that is what made ANLCA what it is today, we can’t say the same thing about the chapters, because come to look at it, all the chapters are working below 50 per cent and there is no exemption to all the chapters. President Shittu’s two years in office has been able to create a remarkable standard for ANLCA and if you look at the global trade which is moving, he felt that the association must move with the global trade. He has been able to affiliate ANLCA with international bodies; we have about five or six affiliations now. So, if you judge with all what I have said you will agree with me that the president of the association is doing a very good job. When you add another two years to his tenure now which is going to be four years, you will agree with me that the sky will be the limit of ANLCA and as a matter of fact, the association should be graduating from being an association to the next level.

I have to take it one after the other, President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu is trying his best, he has done double than our previous leaders, but in the different chapters especially in Tin Can here where I do 80percent of my job, the chapter chairman started well when he was newly- elected, I was in the election that he won and I voted for him, we had the believe that he will perform, but along the line, I don’t know how he was distracted, there are some issues that happened here in Tin Can when we had problems with customs and there was a massive arrest, I heard that he was involved, he was one of the players that caused the problem, we expected much from him, but he performed below average.

As a member of the freight forwarding family, I will say I am impressed with the present set of leadership in ANLCA led by Prince Olayiwola Shittu, you know the man himself is a professional who knows what he is doing, and once the man at the helm of affairs is okay, definitely it’s going to have a formidable team, and you can see the kind of team he is parading, people like Dr. Opara Ogu, the public relations officer in person of Obicee Okonkwo who know what they are really doing. Since they assumed their positions right from the first year up till now, there has been an improvement; both in freight forwarders and custom relationship, since they took over power there has not been any conflict in the command of the customs or any other area where freight forwarding business is being carried out.

Shittu has so far demonstrated that he is a great leader, during his first year in office he set many things in motion and till now he is still achieving, but of course you know that in every administration the first year of take- off is usually full of energy and drive while subsequent years are usually to complement on what has been laid down. So, for me to evaluate ANLCA under two years of the new executive, I will say that they are still performing their best, it is even better than when they were elected, at least now we have been admitted into the International world of custom brokers which personally I believe is a big plus for Nigerian freight forwarders, if customs belong to world custom organization, we also belong to one and we will be respected. I think the team has tried so far and they should be given credit.
Simeon Olua (Fin Sec, NAGAFF)
I can say that Shittu is a performer, since he took over ANLCA, he has upgraded it to a higher level and I give kudos to him, and the way he is trying to control the chapters shows that he is a good leader, and he is somebody that believes that with team work they can forge ahead, had it been that he continued with the sentiment of Elochukwu of the past when things were stagnant and nothing was moving, but when he assumed office as National President of ANLCA I believe things started changing, he has brought a little limelight to the association. Though the chapters are not performing as expected, but we wish that national body can do something to encourage them to live up to expectation, if you look at the chapters things are not moving well as it is supposed to be, so they should team up with other associations, we cannot access their two years for now, but during the first year of ANLCA in office things were moving, but now we are still expecting much, but it seems they are trying to organize elections for the chapters now, maybe this is why the executives are not performing as expected, let’s see after the election, if there will be an improvement.
