The Nigerian Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association (LPGA) has reiterated its plan to collaborate with foreign investors to facilitate indigenous production of gas cylinders.
The President of the association, Alhaji Auwulu Ilu, said on Thursday in Lagos that it  would also facilitate the production of affordable gas cylinder accessories to promote the use of cooking gas in the country.

He said that “the process would also create the enabling environment to make Nigerians use more of cooking gas instead of kerosene, charcoal and firewood in their homes”, even as he added that his association would put up a proposal for a pilot scheme that would promote LPG usage, adding that in the next one month, a comprehensive plan on the project would be ready.
According to him, Nigerians have already embraced the use of LPG. He said the consumption rate of LPG in 2011 surpassed that of 2010, he said the association planned to move to other states to promote the use of LPG after the pilot scheme in Lagos.
“You know that generally the economy is not moving very well; you know that there are so many challenges.
“I know some Chinese who are willing to establish a plant (LPG) here. I know some companies in India, but the moment the market reaches a certain level, they will be willing to start producing here. So, there is a lot of interest and a lot is being discussed.’’
Ilu commended the Lagos State Government for its programme on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) aimed at promoting environmental health and other social issues.
He said: “The state government is working seriously to come up with a comprehensive cylinder and LPG development scheme that will encourage people to use more of gas for cooking rather than using charcoal.
“Lagos has set up a lot of committees; they are collaborating with the local governments and the LCDAs.
“I think they will start the pilot scheme at two local governments to see how it is going to work.”
