Automobile engineers have called on Nigerian importers to shun the importation of hybrid vehicles into the country.
The engineers lamented that hybrid vehicles are becoming a problem due to the fact that most of the technicians in Lagos are yet to understand the technicalities of their repair.
A cross section of the engineers told Shipping Position Daily, last week that spare parts of such vehicles are not readily  available in the Nigeria spare parts market and that this has created a lot of problems when it come to repair and maintenance.

Hybrid vehicles are vehicles that use two and more distinct power sources for propulsion; the vehicles have created problems for automobile experts because they are yet to fully understand its technique.
An Automobile Engineer Mr. Bayo Bamidele, called on importers to avoid the importation of such vehicles into Nigeria, even as he reiterated that buyers will suffer whenever there is need to repair the vehicles.
According to him, there will come a time when people who use this kind of expensive and ‘advance’ vehicles would have no option than to abandon the vehicles whenever they encounter technical hitches. ’’.
He said that spare parts of such vehicles are difficult to find as most auto spare part shop do not sell the spare parts at present.
‘’One thing is to buy, another is to maintain or repair, but most engineers are yet to understand how to go about the technicalities of the repair of hybrid vehicles, so it is important to call on the importers and even the dealers to avoid such cars.
On his part, Bernard Olootu believed that there is need for the technicians in Nigeria to be enlightened or trained on how to repair such vehicles whenever the need arise.
Engineer Olootu noted that engineers in the country are not enlightened on hybrid vehicle thus some of them do not understand what hybrid vehicle is all about.
‘’Most of us do not know what stuff hybrid vehicles are made of, not to talk about the ways on how to repair the vehicle. I must say that the few people that might come across it are finding it difficult to fix and even the one that can do it cannot afford the spare parts in the market’’
‘’Funny enough, some of the parts are very expensive because they were not enlightened about the kind of cars, so we are yet to understand what this type of cars is all about, therefore dealers and importers should stop selling it and importers should stop bringing this cars from oversea.
He noted that large number of Nigerians depend on used vehicles, but pointed out that fairly used hybrid vehicles are gradually finding their ways into the country and advised that there is need for people to avoid such vehicles.
