• Court Remands Obi Eze, Others In Prison

The lingering battle for the soul of factionalised Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents has taken another dimension following the remand in prison custody last week of the trio of Prince Emeka Obi Eze, Mr Kunle Olakanmi, and Mr Benneth Ndee over allegations of fraud.  They were remanded in Ikoyi prison on Wednesday, march 24, 2010.

The trio are the factional leaders of the embattled Council of Managing Director. Prince Obi Eze had been parading himself as the national president, while Benneth Ndee has also been ascribing to himself the title of Secretary of the association. Kule Olakanmi is also parading himself as an executive.

According to the charge sheet which was obtained by our correspondent last week when they were tried at the Magistrate Court in Ebute Metta, Lagos, they were accused of allegedly fraudulently obtaining a security seal of the association by false pretence on July 29, 2009.

Shipping Position Weekly also learnt that it was only Ndee and Olakanmi that were immediately present in court while Obi Eze was said to have been tried later and equally remanded.

The trio were also accused of affixing “the name of Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents to a document and used same as valuable security and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 420 of the Criminal Code Cap. C.17.Vol.11 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria.

They were also accused of “issuing a notice of an emergency meeting of an organisation which you are not members of at the Mobil Pegasus club on or about July 29, 2009.

Our correspondent confirmed that they were granted bail, but that they were unable to meet the bail condition as at Friday.

However, our correspondent also learnt that efforts were being intensified to secure heir bail by stakeholders who are sympathetic to their case.
