The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has witnessed a significant shift in power, as the National Executive Committee (NECOM) officially passed its responsibilities to the Board of Trustees (BOT) today Wednesday August 2nd 2023.

The out-going Acting National President of ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto, officially handed over the ANLCA National Secretariat and its affairs to the BoT, following the agreement reached at the Customs Consultative Council (CCC) peace meeting which held on July 19th in Abuja.

In his speech, Farinto acknowledged the challenges faced along the way, including the efforts of the CCC, which played a crucial role in laying the groundwork for a peaceful transition of power in the association.

He stated that change is an inevitable part of life, particularly when it fosters peace and progress for the greater good of ANLCA and the maritime industry.

Addressing the BoT members and elders of ANLCA who were present, Dr. Farinto urged them to maintain the peace deal, assuring them of the former NECOM’s unwavering support whenever needed.

He called on the BoT to remain resolute in their decisions and resist any attempts to derail the progress achieved during the mediation meeting.
He also appealed to members of the association to participate fully in the election and adhere to the guidelines set by the Association Electoral Commission (ASECO).

He emphasized the significance of a credible, free, and fair election that will shape the future of ANLCA.

The out-going Acting President also used the occasion to apologize to anyone he might have offended during his tenure. He called for reconciliation and urged all members to come together for the sake of peace, progress, and the younger generation within the maritime industry.

In conclusion, Dr. Farinto extended heartfelt gratitude to ANLCA’s President; Mr Iju Tony Nwabunike, and all members of the NECOM for their unwavering commitment to the association’s well-being.

As the BOT takes the reins, he said the entire industry watches with anticipation for the next chapter in ANLCA’s journey towards progress and prosperity.

However, amidst the handing over, the Secretary of the Customs Consultative Council; Chief Eugene Nweke, asked our correspondent, who was present at the event, to leave.
As a result, other deliberations and discussions during the meeting remained unknown.
