Calcutta Crescent In Apapa Named After Sifax Boss; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi

The list of prominent maritime industry stakeholders who have had major roads named after them in the port city of Apapa has grown by one.
The latest addition is the Chief Executive Officer of Sifax Group; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, who the popular Calcutta Crescent has been named after.  

Shipping Position Daily investigations revealed that the Sifax boss contributions to Apapa community, the maritime sector and Nigeria in general paved way for the honour.

The latest addition is the Chief Executive Officer of Sifax Group; Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, who the popular Calcutta Crescent has been named after.  

Shipping Position Daily investigations revealed that the Sifax boss contributions to Apapa community, the maritime sector and Nigeria in general paved way for the honour.

A cross section of maritime operators who spoke to our correspondent on the development last week, described Afolabi as an asset to Apapa Local Government, Lagos state Nigeria and her economy at large.

They said that the SifaxGroup  boss has put smiles in faces  millions Nigeria through direct and indirect employment, even as they added that  the honour was well-deserved.

They also told our correspondent that over 20 streets in Apapa Local Government bear names of colonial masters and there is the need for such names to be changed to honour Nigerians.

A mariner, Niyi Adebowale called on the authorities to honour more players in the maritime sector through naming of streets after them.

Shipping Position Daily  recalls that the former chairman, Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) and Managing Director, Talod Group, Aare Hakeem Olarenwaju  is one of those who have been so honoured. The former  Borno Crescent was named after him last year.

Also for 2013, former Marine road , had been named after the former president, Nigeria Chambers of Shipping and Jetty Operator, Olorogun Oscar Ibru.
Others are Senator Munir Muse, Alhaji Moshood Tijani, and a host of others

The Calcutta Crescent  that is now called Taiwo Afolabi Crescent houses  banks, shipping companies, night club, eateries , it is  a beehive of maritime activities.

It also links Warehouse Road on the west and Abraham Adesanya Street on the east.
