The Canadian Minister for Transport and Internal Trade announced a grant of 35.5 million CAD ($25 million) for the development of shore power facilities in the province of British Columbia in Canada.
The funding of 35.5 million CAD overall has been provided under the Green Shipping Corridor Program, which has been founded for increasing the usage of clean energy in the infrastructure at ports and terminals. Among others, the program has the objective of investing in the establishment of shore power infrastructure in port areas to reduce emissions from idling ships.
Three projects have received a total of 35.5 million CAD. First is the Greater Victoria Harbor Authority (GVHA), which will receive 22.5 million CAD to implement shore power equipment at the Ogden Point cruise terminal.
The second is Seaspan Ferries, which will receive an amount of 6.14 million CAD for implementing shore power equipment at four of its terminals, namely in Delta, Nanaimo, North Saanich, and Surrey.
The third and final entity to receive funding is the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA), which will receive 6.6 million CAD for upgrading the shore power infrastructure at the Canada Place Cruise Terminal, located at the Port of VANCOUVER.
