CILT Urges Federal Government To Support Transport Training Institutions

A call has gone the federal government to support training institutions in the transportation industry.
This call was made recently at a function organized by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport [CILT], in Lagos.

‘’Let me seize the opportunity, therefore to appeal to the federal government to support CILT-Nigeria and all the institutions that have the direct responsibility for training and producing professional transportant’’.
According to him, government should support all modes of transport training academies in the country, even as he specifically mentioned the Nigeria Institute of Transport and Technology [NITT], in Zaria, Kaduna State for railway, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria [MAN], Oron in Akwa Ibom State for the maritime sector.
He cited some of the tertiary institutions which have been accredited by CILT international for the training of professional transportants in Nigeria to include: Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomosho, Lagos State University [LASU] and the Polytechnic, Ibadan.
Professor Filani said that government policy in the transport sector will make the institution to take the responsibility of training and providing those that will be called upon to perform the duty of managing and revamping the transport sector of the country.
“The government policy, backed by the several reforms that have taken place and are still on-going in the transport sector, makes it imperative for CILT, Nigeria to take up the challenges of producing those that will be called upon to perform the task of managing and developing the country’s transport and logistics industry”, he stressed.
The president of CILT, Nigeria said that the former governor of Ogun state, Gbenga Daniel and Lagos state governor, Raji Fashola appointed professionals from CILT into key positions in the transport parastatal of the states and added that this has contributed to the transformation of the states’ transport sector.
